An SAP Commerce Cloud solution consists of a set of modules and extensions. You build your unique e-commerce solution through a series of customizations and configurations on top of SAP Commerce Cloud. Furthermore, in order to keep your e-commerce solution up to date, you’ll have to regularly:
- Upgrade the platform and selected modules to the latest released version.
- Migrate specific solution modules, data model in database and business data.
Both Implementations and Upgrades are delivered in a project environment.
In order to have a successful Upgrade Project, it’s important to have specific roles within the team to support the process, the activities, and the corresponding deliverables.
Phase | Summary |
---|---|
Discovery | The Discovery phase helps you determine which upgrade fits your business digital strategy and determines a quick quote for the effort required to perform the upgrade. The goal of the Discovery phase is to land on 1 of the 3 upgrades: Functional, Like for Like (technical) or Extended (technical). A discovery questionnaire will help you decide on the upgrade type. A Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimate of the upgrade effort is made, only once the type of upgrade is determined. |
Planning | The Planning phase covers the work to analyze the existing application and establish the requirements for the upgrade. Based on the analysis’ results and any new requirements, an estimate of the upgrade effort is made, a plan for the upgrade is created, then the plan is completed during the Execution phase (see below). |
Execution | The Execution phase is where you spend most of your time and effort. During this phase, you are working to perform the upgrade. You will implement the project plan created in the planning phase. The end result of this phase is an upgraded code base that was tested thoroughly and ready for deployment. |
Closing | The Closing phase represents the final activities before regular Application Management resumes. During this phase, you will report the results of the upgrade and perform a handover to your business-as-usual (BAU) teams. By the end of this phase, the upgrade should be completed. |
